I have used Zone Alarm for a couple of years. The only problem I ever had with it was one time when I uninstalled it. Soon after I began to have a lot of problems with my computer and eventually had to call my tech. He tried and tried to diagnose (at $50 per hour) and finally figured out that some ZA files had not been removed. Had to call Zone Alarm to get them gone. I use it now, but every once in a while I get a message saying "files were not checked for viruses as virus protection was not available." Whenever I run it, it reports 0 viruses, though.

Catty:
Just so we're clear on this...Zone Alarm is a Firewall program, not an Anti-Virus program. Zone Alarm does not scan your system for virus infected files, rather it blocks unauthorized inbound and outbound Internet traffic.

This is done to prevent unauthorized access to your system. It makes your computer "invisible" to other Internet users.

You can test your firewall at http://www.grc.com

Click the "Shields Up" link.

Also, if problems develop after uninstalling a program, I suggest you try reinstalling the program and checking if the problem went away. If so, you can try uninstalling it again. Same thing in reverse should a problem develop immediately after installing a program.
