Being a programmer,
qualserve is certainly better qualified than I am to discuss "bloatware" when it comes to programs. All I know about antivirus software is that it is only effective if it is running correctly and it is kept up-to-date.
Most of the clients that I work with are computer "novices" and so they need a antivirus program that is easy to run and that updates automatically.
I have had very good success with the Norton Antivirus program, especially the 2003 version. I have had trouble with the new "Activation" process included in the latest version of the AntiVirus 2003 and AntiVirus 2004. When it fails to activate correctly, it is a real problem and Symantec, (makers of Norton) don't have a good "fix" in place as I write this.
If an install fails, or a reinstall is needed, it can be complex, though I do believe that Symantec does a good job of technical assistance with their online site. I do wish they would include free technical support in those cases where the online support doesn't cover a problem sufficiently.
For my clients, I continue to recommend Norton AntiVirus, though I don't recommend any of their other "Internet Security" products including their Firewall. I think the free ZoneAlarm from
Zone Labs works very well and is pretty easy to use. Although, as I write this, I'm having a problem with ZoneAlarm on my own computer and will be uninstalling it and replacing it with one provided by Sygate Technologies.
SygateIn your situation, since you've already purchased the Norton Internet Security program, it would seem to me to make more sense to repair the problem with
Murray S's link and continue to use the programs.
