Opinions vary, but the eBay toolbar may be spyware. We can't "add/remove" this toolbar from my friend's computer. It says that the text is corrupted. It continues to pop up each day and ask her to update. I have Googled around and seen that the toolbar supposedly can't be uninstalled. Does anyone know of a good removal tool?

Try this
From the Ebay Pages...
quote:
To uninstall eBay Toolbar:

1)Click on the arrow to the right of the eBay icon on the eBay Toolbar.
2)From the drop-down menu, select the Uninstall eBay Toolbar option.

How's That? Wink

Thanks! I didn't even see that paragraph when I was checking the eBay site. I will try it tomorrow when I am at the other computer.

Ok bedstor, here is Chapter 2. While I was gone from the troubled computer someone else managed to get the eBay toolbar off the screen. It still shows on the "add/remove" list at 5.61MB. If I click to uninstall it I get: Error loading C:PROGRAM~1\COMMON~\INSTAL~PROFES~RunTime\09\01\\Intel32|CTOR.dll Specified module could not be found. Nevertheless, there is still an eBay icon on the taskbar called an alert monitor and it sends a popup to be updated every day.

The guy that built my friend's computer just dumped everything from his onto the new one. Everything!

That's madness NQD giving somebody else their grief Frown
I have an Idea to tidy up both issues (gets rid of one)
Download Crap Cleaner from www.ccleaner.com (Its Free) Smile
Install it on your friends computer
Make sure before you begin that all the boxes are ticked in the left frame bar the Cookies and History Boxes in the top section and all the boxes in the Advanced section of the menulist bar the custom box at the bottom (last item)
Ok so far?
Next locate the Analyze button under the right frame press this and the program will start searching for files to go (is very safe)
This may take several minutes The (green)progress bar will keep streaming until the scan is complete
when this happens a list will appear in the right frame like this:
quote:
ANALYSIS COMPLETE - (403.519 secs)
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
190.7MB to be removed. (Approximate size)

C:\WINDOWS\MiniDump\Mini070506-02.dmp 88.00KB
ect....
Next step is to delete the files (can stop at this stage if you are not certain )
Now click the Run Cleaner button on the right bottom corner
This only lasts a short time then this page is displayed
quote:
CLEANING COMPLETE - (37.536 secs)
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
190.8MB removed.

Details of files deleted

ect...

Still not finished Look to the left side click on the Issues icon which tidies up the Registry
Next locate and click the Scan for issues button Wizard runs again Again any item you want to keep untick the box (unlikely)
Next click the Fix selected issues button on the right bottom corner Prompt message asks if you want to "back up" before you delete? then after answering this with a No
Click on the next screen Fix all issues Middle button
All done ( apart from waing fo the cleaner scam to complet this will take you several seconds to do
OH Yes that Taskbar item...
Reopen the program this time selecting the Tools icon
Next window note there are 2 buttons called Uninstall and Startup the first is self explanatory (bypasses the Control Panel)
Click on the Startup button Ok
Complex looking list appears Don't worry about it all you want to find is anything called Ebay
in the Program column OK?
Located it? Click on the item to highlight it ,then click on the button below to delete it
What you have done is stopped it from appearing ever again on startup unless you want to have it again
Tip... See if you can "Exit" the icon before you do this by right clicking the icon and selecting Exit on the menu if its present? (Most icons in the Taskbar have this option)
Again this job will take you seconds to do Wink

BTW This posting only took me just over half an hour to do despite its size Wink
