I installed Monopoly Casino Vegas Edition on my computer the other day. (last Saturday) I had no problems. On Sunday, I turned on my computer and this message appeared at the very bottom:
Verify DMI Pool Data ................ Boot from ATAPI CD-ROM : DISK BOOT FAILURE, INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER
I tried the WIN98 CD and it did not read it. I tried a windows 98 startup disk and it could not read that either.
Could this possibly be a virus from the PC game?
Oh. And I did not access the internet that day nor I had on my computer for 2 weeks.
Help, Please
Thanks-

escencia, Try booting into Safe Mode, and see if you can uninstall the game , then if you can, try restarting the computer again to see if it solves the problem to have the game gone. In 98, to boot into Safe Mode, just after the computer's self test beep, start pushing the F8 key several times. Then choose Safe Mode. Go into Control Panel, then Add/Remove programs, find the game, and uninstall it. I hope this helps!

I am sorry to say that trying to go into safe mode did not work. As soon as I turned my computer on, I repeatedly hit F8. Nothing. The stupid error message came up Verify DMI Pool Data ................ Boot from ATAPI CD-ROM : DISK BOOT FAILURE, INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER
I am thinking that I might have to reformat. I was trying to avoid that as It has only been a few short months since I reformated last and I just recently got the stuff back on my computer that I wanted and got it all set up the way I wanted. Oh well.
I don't know what else to do now.
Thank you again for your help, Chris. It was/is much appreciated

Have you opened the case, and checked to see if the cable is tightly seated in the hard drive and the motherboard? First touch the metal case with one hand , then reach in to check the cables. Make sure the ribbon cable is tightly inserted into the hard drive, then trace the cable back to the motherboard, and make sure its tight there too. If the cable is even slightly loose, it can give you that error message. I once spent an hour trying to get one to boot, before I remembered that, and found the cable had worked a little loose, LOL. If that's not the problem, post back, maybe someone else will have another idea. While you're in the case though, check ALL the cables and power connectors to be sure there's no loose ones.

Some additional info for you If all looks ok then reinstall the driver for your CD It will be one of these on this List Shorten the list by clicking on your Version of Windows above the list Choose the driver which fits the CD Drive? You pick it up from Driverguide.com (Have to register) Clue to what to choose is... Click on My Computer Right click on the CD drive icon, select Properties Then click the Hardware Tab there should be a list of the Makes of Cdrom on your computer click on the item select Properties to find out what the driver number is also It may say if there is an issue? OR try this other faster route : Click Start and in the Runbox type :msinfo32.exe then Press OK This will open the System Information Window In the Left pane click on Components>CDROM The driver Name/number is at the Foot of the List On the same list click on Problem devices It may show up on this list Disregard anything else WIN98 on mine kept showing Mass Storage devices were faulty despite no Problems externally Am on XP now still running the same drives and Higher RAM and this area is empty TOP TIP> To copy Details of the driver or anything in this windows area click on the Item to Highlight it, then click the Edit link on the top of the window then click Copy on the list, then you can paste it to wherever you need it to go Do it in seconds with practice Ps The same method is employed when copying Character from the Charactermap (Charmap)Program This is the Driver number and details from my computer: Driver c:\windows\system32\drivers\cdrom.sys (5.1.2600.2180 (xpsp_sp2_rtm.040803-2158), 48.38 KB (49,536 bytes), 31/03/2003 13:00)

Ok. So I got `er all squared away. I figured out the problem. My harddrive went kaput. I got a new harrdrive. It's a Seagate 120GB. I also upgraded my memory to Kingston 1.25GB. I also broke down and upgraded to Windows XP. (which I love, btw!)
After all that, my motherboard is going out now
But hey! I can still use it though for the first time in months! Yay!
I apologize for taking so long in responsing. I appreciate all of your guys' help. I always know where I can turn to when I have problems with my comnputer.
Thanks so much!!

Glad to see you figured it out, sorry to hear about the motherboard though, you might consider using Everest Home Edition to get the name and model of the motherboard, then look on Ebay to see if there are any available for auction, could save you a pile of money. You can download Everest here . Good luck!
