was your virus scan able to clean, quarantine, or delete it? Is your virus scan current - do you check for updates on a weekly basis?
I just looked for the virus you listed (I'm assuming you wrote it just as your virus scan listed it) at Symantec's library and can't find anything by that name.
Here's the link: securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/vinfodb.html [This message was edited by sonnet26 on 08-19-02 at 09:09 PM.] ********************************************************* 08-19-02, 11:22 PM TomGL2 Becca, I suggest you install Norton Antivirus to deal with this problem. ********************************************************* 08-20-02, 04:44 AM becca No the scan wasn't able to clean this. Thanks guys for the info. I will check into it. ********************************************************* 08-20-02, 04:45 AM becca No the scan wasn't able to clean this. Thanks guys for the info. I will check into it. The scan I did was called Bitdefender, it picked up this trojan, where Housecalls didn't. Usually the housecalls scan is pretty good I hear. ********************************************************* 08-20-02, 08:16 PM sonnet26 becca:
I haven't found anything free that will do the job. I just purchased Norton Internet Security 2002 at Best Buy for $70 with $50 in mail-in rebates (final cost $20 when I get around to mailing in my rebates); worth every penny! The personal firewall can be a bit tricky (and a royal pain in the keister) to work with unless you're totally into PC garbage. If that's the case, go for just the Antivirus like TomGL suggested (he knows way more than me).
Sometimes, free just don't cut it.
sonnet(most times, cheap as a 3 dollar suit)26 ********************************************************* 08-21-02, 04:18 PM becca I downloaded the Norton Antivirus, they had a free trial period. It works great. It detected two backdoor trojans in my computer. The one they had a removal tool for, the other one sounds very complicated to remove, have to get into the registry to do that, not sure I even know how to tackle that one. I put them in Quarantine for now. Need an expert to come over and get into the registry for me. Knowing me, I would have everything deleted lol. Thanks for the information on this. ********************************************************* 08-25-02, 11:32 AM becca Every since I downloaded the Norton Antivirus trial period, it has caused my computer to freeze, turning the screen black sometimes, and then a message saying something about a fatal error has occured. Maybe I don't have enough room to run this program very well. Any way I uninstalled it, now computer is running fine. Wish it would have worked though, I know it's a good program. ********************************************************* 09-06-02, 10:55 AM Fritzzs The problem you are having with Norton is not unusual...I cannot use Norton at all...McAffe to me is a joke... I now use AVG (grisoft.com) and it is working great...And it is free....You might want to check it out..... ********************************************************* 09-06-02, 01:45 PM ivnj In case anybody was unaware Norton allows U to scan for viruses online!
