The infected file cannot be deleted if it is in use. Restart the computer in Safe Mode, then run the virus scan. Note that a LoveLetter infected file cannot be repaired, because the virus replaces the file -- nothing of the original file is left.

To invoke Safe Mode, restart the computer, then repeatedly tap F5 (Windows 95, 98) or hold a shift key (Windows 98, ME) after the self-test beep.

For Windows XP, repeatedly tap F8 and choose "Safe Mode".

I cant get rid of these things, I have used symantec, done the removal in safe mode and it still says the files can't be repaired or removed, I don't notice anything extremely horrid happening with my computer except a couple of frequent error messages that end up shutting down IE....I am using Windows ME/ Have a Pentium 3/ Have a virus scanner/removal program/have used symantec, every removal version.

Any suggestions?

If you're using Windows ME, and the infected files are located in the _RESTORE folder, you must disable System Restore in order to remove the files. See the Symantec article How to disable or enable Windows Me System Restore.
