Hi All, I know I'm beating a dead horse, excuse the pun Big Grin, but I'm trying to get some kind of protection on this stupid Win Me. I have tryed avast and it just slowed everything down to a crawl. So did my spotbot S&D.
I know Ad-Aware SE no longer supports Win Me, but about SpywareBlaster?

On the Spybot S&D, can't I just tweak that on the install not to install the tea timer? Because, I just spent a week trying to free this pc up, and avast almost did it in, didn't want to uninstall...had to go get a removal tool, grrrrrr.......

I had heard there's a free antivirus program called Antivir, is that any good?

I know alot of questions, just making sure everyone knows, Win Me is not taking all these programs. ZoneAlarm is still up but you got to make sure it's an earlier version.

sh,
I'm surprised Avast did that to your computer, I've used it forever and never had any problems. But to answer your questions, Antivir used to be rather good, but has slipped in recent years. If Avast wont work, I would recommend AVG which can be found at www.grisoft.com. Spywareblaster will work with ME, I've installed it recently on a 98 machine. It is definitely possible to install Spybot without that annoying Tea Timer. During the installation, just uncheck the box for it. Be careful to read every page during the installation process so you wont miss it.
You may want to make sure you have all the Windows updates before installing any new programs, as ME is very stubborn at times about operating well anyway, as I'm sure you know. You can also get a basic firewall without having to look for an older version of Zone Alarm, by Googling Tiny Personal firewall 2.0.15 and downloading it to be installed. I use these programs on all computers under Win 2000, as they seem to be the ones that work the best. Let us know if you have any other questions!
