A few months ago I had downloaded Kazaa and knew nothing about spyware until recently. I have since gotten rid of Kazaa, but I still have problems.
My homepage changes to
http://default-homepage-network.com/newspynotice.html and four items have appeared on my desktop: csp4po28.exe, SILENT.EXE, 0.BAT, and one just called 0. I also found a file called mjjcnpok.exe that i cannot delete, when I try to it says that I cannot because it is being used by windows.
I have used Ad-aware 6, Spy Sweeper, SpywareBlaster, and Browser Hijack Blaster, but My homepage still changes even though I no longer have a P2P program. Are there any other programs I can DL that may help?
I have an HP with windows 98 second edition 4.10.2222A
P.S. when I do a sweep with the spyware stuff I was informed from someone on the net that a thing called 'Backweb' came with the computer and should not be deleted, is that true?

Have you tried pcpitstop? They will run a free and safe analysis of your computer. Just click on the gold key and test anonymously. Once the test is finished, you will have to decline an offer. Then the test results will be displayed. Click on view test details.

Boot into Safe Mode and run your anti-spyware programs again. If that .exe file is still there after that, you should be able to just delete it.

Hi JasonK, yes, backweb DOES come loaded with all HP computers. It is installed so that your computer can update itself automatically. It was installed because most people do NOT bother updating their loaded software. In this way, the computer automatically does the updating by itself. You can try using TRENDMICRO'S Online Virus checker and also PESTPATROL'S Online Adware checker. Have you also tried SPYBOT 1.3 ? It is another Adware detector. Before I forget, did you tweak your copy of AdAware? If not, go into the program's configuration. Under "Scanning", make sure you have in the top section, the first item selected & in the bottom section, ALL items selected. Next, go down to "Tweak". Under "Cleaning Engine", make sure the second item (Automatically try to Unregister) is selected. Click on "Proceed" to accept these changes, make sure you "Check For Updates Now", then start the check once again. If you don't unregister the program, it will just come back because it is in the registry of your computer. Good Luck.
