The majority of the time, Norton will not be able to repair the infected item. This is because the infected email attachment is not a "real" message, it is only a virus. The entire contents of the message is the virus. The only way Norton could "repair" the infected message would be to delete it. Because of this, I usually just skip the "Quarantine" step and select the "Delete" option when advised of a virus by Norton. However, the "Quarantine" is a perfectly safe procedure.
Remember, Norton caught the virus before it could "run" on your system, and when you clicked the "Quarantine" button, the virus was safely isolated from your system.
At this point you really do no have to do anything. Norton has contained the infected file and your system is protected. If you want to, you can open the "Quarantine" file and select and delete the file(s) just to recover the space the files are using on your system.
And it may make you feel better to run the scan of your entire system. Just open Norton, and click the "Scan" option.
I hope this helps!
