Picked up a couple of those cutties called Klex H's.. Downloaded Symantec Klez Removal Tool and it took care of one, but not the other...
Heres what is puzzeling; My AVG still says I have a Klez H virus and cannot remove it....
I run Symantec removal tool and it says I'm clean with no virus.. ?????
The virus is in my Program files, AOL 7.0a...(so says AVG)
What now Coach !!

I had the same problem. My Nortons asked me if I wanted to quarantine it. Is this enough ?

AVG -Automatic Healing

Sandy

When Norton has "quarantined" a virus, your system is safe from it. The virus was detected by Norton before it had a chance to "run".

I'm not sure what you meant by, "I had the same problem". If you meant your AOL is infected as indicated by AVG, then try the link above for "Automatic Healing".

If you meant that you had seen the Norton notification about the Klez virus, then you need not do anything more.

Finally, if you wish, you can go to the Quarantine area and remove the file. It is not necessary, but it would save whatever space the file is taking up on your computer storage system.

To do that, just open Norton and click on "Reports" (if using Norton 2001, version 7.7). Then click on "View and Manage the items in Quarantine".

You can find program version numbers by clicking on "Help", then "About...".

If you're using a different version, I can't tell you the exact steps, but you can open "Help" to the "Index" page and look up "quarantine".

I hope this helps!

I'm running Norton's Internet Security 2002. I've quite a list in my quarantine file and have been told that by deleting any of them I would be taking a chance of also deleting .dll files that my computer OS, windows98SE, needs to operate.
I've left them all in the file as I have no idea what .dll files are needed.
Was this information in error?

I have been receiving different versions of the Klez virus/worm almost every day for weeks now, my Norton AntiVirus 2002 has caught them coming into my email inbox before they can infect anything, and I have been routing them directly into quarantine, submitting them to Symantec, then deleting them completely from my system. If you have inbound email scanning enabled, you should be able to do the same. Deleting these emails from quarantine should not hurt your system if they were caught while incoming to your inbox, or so I would think, since they have not been able to infect anything. If you can do this, it may help you too. Good luck!

Which version of the Klez removal tool are you using ?
The newest version is 1.0.11.
Download Here

When I first was infected by the KLEZ, the removal tool
was version 1.0.3, so it seem that Symantec is continualy
upgrading this tool.

Double click the removal tool you have, the version number
will be displayed on the top line, also you can see this info by clicking "About".

Best of luck to you.

Di,
Glad I was able to help! I'm still getting these Klez viruses nearly every day , and am blocking sender on each one that comes in, though they still keep coming. My "block sender" list is about 3 hundred addresses long now, and growning every day. I dont know the maximum that you can block thru Outlook Express, but I'm sure to getting close to it soon. I am hoping to be able to slow it down eventually, but most likely wont be able to, knowing how many idiots like to send them. I have yet to see the BugBear one, though I'm sure it will be the next one I get. I am keeping a close watch on Symantec's website (http://www.symantec.com/downloads/index.jsp), for all the newer versions that come out, and new threats to pcs everywhere. I still have alot to learn about all this, quite a bit in fact, but am learning new things from this site all the time. Keep up the great work all, I appreciate it all!

Wow! That's alot of spam/virus emails; website? or your personal email? May I suggest MailWasher? It offers a Bounce and Delete option that may free up your Blocked list. You can download it HERE. Just run it before you start your email program and Bounce and Delete everything you don't want. The bounce feature makes the sender believe your email address doesn't exist. I think it's great!

I too had a huge 'blocked senders' list. Have transfered them all to the OE Server's source by doing the following:
In OE, click "Create Rule from message"
(new window)-
1. Click "Where the From line contains people
2. Click "delete"
3. Click highlighted "contains"
4. In the next window type in the address you want to block.
5. In the following window, click the "contains" line again, (the address you entered will be here.

This will stop mail from any party you list at the original mail server.

I also went back and listed all address from my blocked senders list so I could delete them from my system

Good luck,
Di

Sonnet26,
I get these emails through my Outlook Express mail, my ISP. They still average several a week, though I havent received any for the last few days. Hopefully there wont be many more, after getting Mailwasher. Thanks again!

I have Norton Works. I have gotten that Klenz.H virus twice through Outlook this week! I didn't open the e-mail. I'll try the removal tool suggested. I hope it works!

I had three Kluz's...My anti-virus took one out, Symantec Removal took another one out, but nothing could take out the third....
So, a trip to the vets was in order...$50 later I was clean...Only damage was it wiped out my favorites....
