Been doing a lot of reading about SoBigF...Its been about a year or more since this ideal was posted, but think its time for it again.
The following paragraph I took from an artical on AOL ....( Once the file is opened, Sobig.F resends itself to scores of email addresses from the infected computer and signs the email using a random name and address from the infected computer's address book.)

Soooo, do the following:

Go into your address book and enter : ( !000 )as an address.. It will go right to the top of your addresses, and stop any kind of virus from contaminating it because it is not a real address and therefore cannot attach itself to your addresses....

It has worked for me countless times...

Another thought: Maybe since 98 and ME are not effected with this new bug, it might be worth the trouble to go back to one of them till this blows over...Just a thought...!

Howdy Don:

That would work ONLY if the virii decided to send itself out in alphabetical order.. Unfortunately, most of the newer ones don't.. The pick and email addy at random and send themselves out to ONE contact at a time.. The only time you would get a hit is IF it decided to pick your bogus contact..

The sobig.f worm does affect all Windows based computers.

I think you're referring to the MSblaster which only affects:

Microsoft Windows NT® 4.0
Microsoft Windows 2000
Microsoft Windows XP
Microsoft Windows Server™ 2003

I just wanted to say that the Sobig.f virus is a non-discriminatory virus which is passed through e-mail. You can get it no matter what operating system you have. Windows 98 and ME are equally vulnerable as Windows XP and 2000. The only way to protect yourself reliably is to have updated virus software and/or be very selective when opening attachments.

However, there IS a virus which is currently attacking WinXP and Win2k. It is the MSBLASTER virus. If you are contaminated you can remove the virus and the vulnerability at http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com

I stand corrected Dwight, yes, it is the Blaster...
I have always understood that if a virus cannot get into the first address, then it is stopped and cannot pass itself to the others...
Am I under the wrong impression ??

See Murray S's response above. This address book thing is not very effective, I'm afraid.

Not exactly.

It only effects MS operating systems. Those of us running Linux, Mac, or BSD have no problems.
