I had my domain with yahoo.com. Yesterday I called to cancel my account with them, and to change my DNS information. They told me that 6 hours after cancellation, I could go to their tech support and change my DNS. Six hours later I contacted tech support only to be told that once the cancellation was effective, I could NOT change my DNS information with them, but must contact a host called MelbourneIT. MelbourneIT never heard of my domain name. What can I do? Is there some way I can do this myself? I already have an account with the new host for this domain name.

Thanks for any information.

Contact the technical support people of your new host and see if then can help you.

If they cannot help, you will have to contact the Yahoo technical support people and get their assistance.

If none of these suggestions help, please email me and perhaps I can assist you. My email address is on my site at http://dwightblackburn.com

Thank you, Dwight: This morning I received this message from yahoo tech support:

"Your domain name has been released from our reseller account.

You will shortly receive an email with a Registry Key from Melbourne IT,
the domains registrar. This email will be sent to: (ME)

You will be able to log into the Melbourne IT Console to manage your
domain or retrieve your Authorization Code by going to the following
URL:
http://maintenance.internetnamesww.com/index.php3

If you still haven't received a Registry Key from Melbourne IT within 24
hours, please visit the following link to retrieve the Registry Key for
your domain:
http://www.melbourneit.com.au/cc/recover/index

Please Note: According to ICANN policy, a domain cannot be transferred
within 60 days of registration. This is standard practice for all
registrars. If you would like to review the policy, please view the
following URL:
http://www.icann.org/tlds/agreements/verisign/registry-...16apr01.htm#ExhibitB"

I have already been directed to Melbourne by another yahoo but they say they've never heard of me or my domain. So how can I log in?

My second question has to do with their statement that "Please Note: According to ICANN policy, a domain cannot be transferred
within 60 days of registration. This is standard practice for all
registrars." Does this mean that I have to wait two months before I can point to my new host?

Thank you for any help. Thank you especially Dwight, for your generous offer. I may have to take advantage of it.

Second question first - No. You registered your domain name a long time ago so the 60-day limit has no impact on your situation.

First question: I gather that you contacted Melbourne IT before the Yahoo people had transferred your domain name, or before Melbourne IT had a chance to locate your domain name.

Try it again now and see if they can find you domain name within their system.

If they cannot, then I think your best course of action is back to the Yahoo technical support people because if they made an error with the transfer, Melbourne IT will not be able to help you. Only the Yahoo people would be in a position to figure out what went wrong and correct the error.

Thank you, Dwight. Yahoo did not transfer, they merely released. It's not the same thing, right? They said Melbourne would do the transfer. I did contact them, and received a ticket number saying they would investigate and contact me later. I don't excpect anything until the new year, so I will be back with results. Thanks again for these tips.
