I have a personal aol account and a work aol account. I have been getting emails sent to the work account that have no message and attachments. I do not open these because I am afraid of viruses. I do not use outlook express. I received an email today on the work account that said it was sent from the personal account, the only problem is I'm the only one with access to the personal account and I did NOT send the email. In my personal account the letter does not show up in 'sent mail'.
I did an update on my macafee program and scanned the computer and it said, 'no viruses', but I feel like I have to have a virus of some sort for it to send the email from one account to the other when I know for a fact I was sitting at my desk at the time the mail was sent, and I was online at the time and did not send it.
I'm afraid to open the attachments, but I feel like I have some sort of virus.
I have a compaq deskpro EXm566C, windows 98, 64 mg. system.
One of the old emails I had received a couple of months ago had a subject line of 'fixklez' and I did not open this but started reading about klez thinking 'maybe that is my problem'. I downloaded a 'fixklez' program, but it said I did not have it, so I'm at a loss of what to do next.
My system loses time during the day and stutters when saying, "You've got mail" and "goodbye". Once it starts losing time I have to reboot everything for it to work properly. I changed the clock battery, but it was not the problem.
Do I have a virus? PLEASE HELP ME!

I'm not an expert, but it sure sounds like you've been exposed to the Klez.h (a.k.a. WORM_KLEZ.H) virus. I can't say if it infected your computer or not. Apparently it can infect different files, so symptoms could vary from one computer to another.
Some of the distinctives of Klez include: 1) It may be a LARGE file, but when opened there is nothing there. 2) It gets into an address book and emails itself to those addresses (without the owner's knowledge). But, I've seen information that it can also find addresses in other files on the computer, mailing itself from one address to another address found in a Word document for example.
You might also try posting your question under "Beginners Issues" or "Internet Issues" since you're not sure if it's a virus or something else that might be affecting your computer.
Hope this is helpful, Teresa
