My mother has some sewing software. Anyway, she copies designs from her laptop to her sewing machine. She's done this historically by cutting and pasting from the cd that has the designs, in her laptop, onto a keychain storage device, and then onto her sewing machine via the USB port. I've done it for her several times, so I know it works.

Anyway, just recently, all the designs on all of her cds have become write protected. She can't copy them onto her memory stick. And when I try to unclick the "read only" button under properties, it tells me I don't have access. Could this be some kind of bug, or am I just missing something extremely simple?

Thanks for any help!

Have you tried reloading the driver or B) Checking the Menu item on the Pc for a password settings option?
Or is there none of these(a basic Plug and Play item)? Post what brand the stick is and somebody may be able to give a better answer Smile

How about doing a "File/Save As" and saving the file onto the jump drive (key chain storage device)? You may need to open the file's "Properties" window (by right-clicking on the file) and uncheck the "Read Only" setting once it is saved to the jump drive.

I've seen this "read only" problem come up from time to time with files saved on a CD. I'm not sure if the read only setting is caused the burning software or by by the CD writer itself. I know that on Win98 machines, the read only setting is always there on CD files, but not always in WinXP so the OS may have something to do with it.

I hope this will help, but if not please post again and we can take another stab at the problem.

There is a 3rd way which might work?
Drag and drop the file/s from the CD onto a folder which you can make up then take out the CD and see if you can move the file/s now?
I have a similar problem with a "Cannot write to(or from) source" error when moving/copying/deleting images or files Off floppy or hard drive
Normally this means you are trying to post back to where it came from or to an Identical file (some times a protected area) Confused But with Luck they do get transfered if the Source (Cd or what have you) is off the computer or isolated Wink
