where did the secure sign go that was on the bottom of the page lower right hand side. the thing that told you you where secure like at the bank web sites ect. its gone now with ie7. ********************************************************** 12-12-06, 02:24 PM Dwight From the Windows Internet Explorer 7.0 Tour:
Security Status Bar: See this picture Enhances awareness of website security and privacy settings by displaying color-coded notifications next to the address bar. Internet Explorer 7 changes the Address Bar to green for websites bearing new High Assurance certificates, indicating the site owner has completed extensive identity verification checks. Phishing Filter notifications, certificate names, and the gold padlock icon are now also adjacent to the address bar for better visibility. Certificate and privacy detail information can easily be displayed with a single click on the Security Status Bar. ********************************************************** 12-12-06, 02:56 PM dodgecity ah there it is. thanx dwight i was getting worried i never looked up. i got used to it being down on the bottom. thank you ill keep reading Big Grin ha funny i could not remember it was a pad lock. Roll Eyes Big Grin ********************************************************** 01-09-07, 01:58 PM dodgecity well just had my first problem with ie7 it seems as though something in there disables the windows firewall for a couple of minute then after that it will turn back on. so i uninstalled it and bingo problem solved. ill have to try another firewall and see. anybody else have this problem? ********************************************************** 01-09-07, 03:43 PM Dwight I think that it is likely that any firewall problem is not caused by IE, but rather by a virus or by Spyware. Most likely a combination of the two.
Are you familiar with HijackThis? If so, if you could install this into a folder within the My Documents folder and then run it and save the log file to post here; we may be able to determine if there is a problem file.
If you feel comfortable running this yourself, go ahead but beware, this program can cause serious system errors because it allows entry into normally protected system files. Be careful about following advice from anyone unless you're sure they know what they are talking about and have explained about backups.
Dwight ********************************************************** 01-11-07, 11:17 PM dodgecity yes im very familiar with that . it was not any kind of spyware ive checked . it was ie7 cause as soon as i deleeted it it went away. and now im waiting for ie7 to get some bugs worked out then i will try it again. funny thing it did not do this on my kids computer ive got four computers running and two have the ie7, well now one. it shut down the firewall just for a bit then it would start back up. maybe a start up problem. ill have to check. i thought about some kinda spys too but its not the case(this time at least i have not found any) Smile ********************************************************** 01-12-07, 04:06 AM Dwight What makes you think the Firewall was temoporarily shut off?
What is the brand/version number of the Firewall? Click Help/About... in the Firewall software program to find this information.
Have you looked at the Firewall permissions list to see if whatever is being allowed is on the "Allow" list?
This page (Click the "shields up" link) will run a quick test of your firewall. You will need to click the Shields Up link, then look down the page for a second "Shields Up" link under the "Hot Spots" section.
Run the "All Service Ports" test. Click on any Red areas to learn more about whatever service ports may be permitting entry.
This site is by Steve Gibson. I consider this site to be totally trustworthy.
By the way, on your other thread about the HP computer, please include the model number of the computer; + any additional information about the system would also be nice. For instance what is the current operating system, etc.
Dwight ********************************************************** 01-13-07, 02:11 PM dodgecity its windows firewall and th reason i think its off is it says so when its booting up. i forgot about sheilds up test thanx ill go and give that a whirl.there is nothing in the permissions list at all. it dosnt do it any more now that ive gotten rid of ie7 and went back to ie6 but im going to try it again. thanx for reminding me about sheilds up i totaly forgot about that test Smile ********************************************************** 01-14-07, 12:08 AM Dwight If the windows Firewall is not "Starting" at system startup, there is likely some kind of problem in the Control Panel --> Administrative Tools --> Service --> Windows Firewall/Internet Connection Sharing (ICS)
The startup value should be set to "Automatic". If it is set to manual, you can change that value by opening the Windows Firewall/Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) entry and choosing the "Automatic".
If the image is to small to read (using IE 6.0), click the Image Resize Toolbar. This link will show you what it looks like. Hover your cursor near the bottom right corner of the image to get the Image Resize Toolbar to come into view.
If you're using IE 7.0 see view the picture, go the bottom right side of the browser window and increase the zoom from 100% or click on the magnifying glass with the + sign.
********************************************************** 01-14-07, 01:18 AM Dwight This is maybe a better picture of the Internet Explorer 7.0 "Zoom Tool" in operation.
********************************************************** 01-22-07, 09:25 PM dodgecity i dunno what the problem is/was i reloaded ie7 and been using it for a bit now . everything is fine. must of been something. maybe it got confused like i do sometimes he he Big Grin Big Grin any who it works good.
