I'm trying to hook up to a music download peer group but got this error message:

"Outgoing TCP connections use proxy settings."

What does this mean? What are proxy setings anyway, and how can I get rid of them? They're always in my way!

I won't dare to tell you what to do Catty, but this page explain the problem you probably have and offers solutions ( downloads). I would wait until someone on AP (who's qualified enough) approves before you do anything.

Thank you so much for that link, Mozart, but the page might as well been written in Sanskrit. I will certainly follow your advice, and wait for some guru to help me with this.

Proxy Settings are values that must be added to access a server. You would get this code from the provider. You can enter this value in the Control Panel / Internet Options / Connections / Lan Setting

Check the automatic script and type in
the code that the provider gives you.

See this picture

If you don't have a code, give the site address and we can look it over and see what the requirements are.

Thank you, Dwight, but what is the "automatic script" and where do I find it?
