THIS (EMS) is the only thing I've ever gotten to actually work. Or Google Toolbar has a built-in stopper too.

Welcome to Answerpool ChofStone Smile
We get many requests for Popup stoppers in this section (most are in the Beginners Forum)
And after many try outs the Best one we recommend (easy to use & Free) is called Spyblaster
For details visit this link
I have been using it for a few months and Have no pop-ups happening at all Razz (have FULL control Smile) there are some more programs worth loading in that forum and they will improve your surfing quite a lot

It is a good thing you said that because you never know what the questioner has lurking in their registry? Frown Agreed the Google Toolbar is a good choice as a basic P/U stopper..My AOL8 P/U stopper is ON all the time there are only a handful of sites I allow Popups off,(for "confirmation" windows) Works good Smile
Wish they would release it as a "stand-alone" prog?

I strongly recommend AKiller from Source Force. I found that with other pop-up closing programs, they would close pop-ups that I wanted to open, like my Yahoo address book. With AKiller, you choose the title of the window that you want closed, like Casino Gambling - Microsoft Internet Explorer and it automatically closes it. This way, only the pop-ups that you want closed will close.

It does take a little while to be effective, but I have been using it for over a year now and have built up a large list of pop-ups to close, which I'd be happy to send you by email. (The program can bundle your list as a savable file.)

I like the "hosts" file for blocking unwanted popups: Read about hosts

And add the Toggle switch: Toggle Switch
