posted 08-25-03 09:24 AM I want to try to resolve a problem by using system restore, but I had that msblast worm. I believe I have the worm and all it's components removed, so is it safe to do a restore to a point prior to the invasion of the worm?
Did you disable RESTORE before removing the worm, and also have you installed the patch to prevent infection again?
Incidentally disabling RESTORE will purge ALL your previous restore points....the only danger I can see if the Virus is in one of your restore points it will come back,so be careful.
Hi, Bazcaz. Yes, I followed the removal instructions to the letter, including disabling System Restore, which I understands removes all previous restore points. So, unless I didn't remove all of the worm parts from my computer, there shouldn't be any parts of the worm left in past restore points, since the restore points have been purged. Does that make any sense? No, come to think about it, it doesn't. It only purges restore points that Icreated, right? I can still restore to an earlier date, just not one that I created. Jeez, I'm confusing myself.
LV...Restore points are made automatically in XP..you can of course make your own...it sounds like the virus would be gone (You have the patch of course) so if it is that IMPORTANT! do a restore.....should be OK.....why do you want to restore anyway if all is fixed??
I am having an unrelated problem, and I am hoping that a restore will fix the problem, otherwise I have to try other steps that will, for me, be complicated. If you are interested, check out my post in beginners issues, under Script Error.
