I have McAfee Virus Scan 6.0 which has a firewall in it

Under Security Settings:
Background Settings:
Internet filter says disabled

But in the box at the bottom labeled "Internet Traffic"

I have "Filter" highlighted.
The other two choices are "Block All"
or
"Allow All"

Since it says my internet filter is disabled, does this mean that "nasties" could get through my firewall?

Perhaps the best way to answer this would be for you to run a security test on your system. Gibson Research Center offers the "Shields Up" test. You can run it by Clicking Here.

If the test shows you are running in "Stealth" mode, then you're secure.

The test showed that everything is running in stealth mode, so I'm protected.

Would Zone Alarm add any extra Protection?

If you're already in stealth mode, I would think an additional firewall would be over kill.

Every running process on your machine uses some of your computer's resources, so adding an additional firewall program would slow down your system, at least to some degree.

If you were a highly targeted user, like a bank for instance, then I would think the more protection the better. But for the average home user I should think a single functioning firewall, be it software or hardware, is sufficient.
