Where can I get a paper notebook (no- not a regular one) that I can store my passwords on? I'm looking for one that has separate categories for site, user name, password and comments. I also would like it to have dividers for banking, business, online images, email accounts, forums, shopping, bill pay and more. I tried using just a lined notebook but it isn't working well. I STILL don't feel comfortable using an encrypted online site or program. I just want a notebook I can store at home, in a drawer with my own little codes. Do you know where I can purchase one of these? I know someone must make one. ******************************************************** 06-18-06, 09:24 AM Kelleygirl Clarebear,
A notebook might be a good thing to use but let me suggest creating a file on your computer. I have my folder in my email at home just for passwords and a file at week, on two different drives, and update them whenever whenever any of them change. This seems to work for me. Good luck -- these passwords are definitely getting ridiculous! ******************************************************** 06-18-06, 11:16 AM bedstor My password policy is easy 1) Use 1 password 2)Dont use the remember me box (stops spammers grabbing it) 3) Encode the Password in such a way Its easy for you to remember Strong example: 999Clarebear999 Weak example Clarebear or ClareFrown Worst way ... Password or 1234 or Name Red Face Really! Mine is coded as a personal word with the first 2 characters are numbers substituting for letters examples 1= I or L(lowercase)2=N or S or Z ... Hackers normally go for Christian Names first to scam for So the more obscure the Password (in slight gobbledegook) the harder it is to crack Wink...To date have had No spam addressed to my Main Mailbox (and the "remember me" box is unticked) Which is easier to crack between MIKE or 31KE ? Smile Just saved you the cost of a note pad PS For All number codes use your ZIP code and Area code for your passnumber Normally up to 6 digits worse one's is to use 123456 or 000000 Be creative such as 112244 (Depending on your memory)Don't use your Bank details As for fixed passwords to sites swap them over at the first opportunity to yours and Emailed registration details send them to a made up folder in your email account...Mines just called Reminders Wink ******************************************************** 06-18-06, 02:20 PM clarebear My zip code- letters- area code. Brilliant!! I like that. Big Grin
Its funny how you say not to use basic names. When I first started online, all of my passwords were qwerty or computer. LOL
You can use this Password Checker to see how secure your password really is.
My problem is just as Kelleygirl stated. They are getting ridiculous. I use different passwords for online shopping, website registrations, banking, bill paying, email addresses etc... Its just hard to keep up. ******************************************************** 06-18-06, 03:16 PM DorianGreyed Am I the only one to notice that storing your passwords in an e-mail file is no help if your computer goes south? ******************************************************** 06-18-06, 03:44 PM gizmogram Ya know DG? I was thinking the same thing! Eek
Although...I use my Yahoo mail for just about everything to do with email - even if my computer fries I can access my Yahoo mail from any computer. I store emails with info I don't want to lose - like links to sites I wouldn't be able to find again, registration details for various sites, etc. ******************************************************** 06-18-06, 03:48 PM DorianGreyed "even if my computer fries I can access my Yahoo mail from any computer."
Only if you remember your password, which takes us back to the original problem. ******************************************************** 06-18-06, 04:28 PM bedstor

Simplest save is a text file of a few bytes saved to floppy or a pen drive I saved my AOL password of 7 characters to a Text file as an experiment and it consumed 7 bytes ! LOL This can be saved to floppy or a USB pen drive (getting cheaper) and the original text file deleted Only thing I dislike about XP is Passwords to access accounts (is a real pain if you are locked out of those!) Mad So Check that these have been unlocked before doing major upgrades (as in the SP2 upgrade)and do a change to something easier to log on with, should the unspeakable happen Frown PS My password is rated strong on Roboform yet Medium with MS Confused Only way to make it strong is to enter it as ?>:LL::< ! Which most sites reject Wink they only utilise the Email username format with the underscore: "_" the only special character allowed and disregards what case the Password is entered as... ******************************************************** 06-18-06, 04:54 PM DorianGreyed "Simplest save is a text file of a few bytes saved to floppy or a pen drive I saved my AOL password of 7 characters to a Text file as an experiment and it consumed 7 bytes ! No, simplest is a pencil and a piece of paper. 0 bytes, and you don't have to worry about it not working. ******************************************************** 06-18-06, 05:05 PM bedstor A 0 byte (no brainer)masterplan DG Cool Stored under the fridge magnet? If your computer goes south... you don't need any passwords anymore- you won't have a computer! And besides, if you store them in an email file, they would be on their server not on your computer. Dorian, isn't your password: jenniwiththewebcam2002?
Bedstor,
You keep your passwords hidden under your couch cushions? Red Face You are a serious computer geek aren't you! dang. Wink You should try hiding them under the old oak tree that we all meet at when the server goes down. Smile Nobody would look there. Big Grin LOL ******************************************************** 06-20-06, 04:57 PM DorianGreyed "And besides, if you store them in an email file, they would be on their server not on your computer."
How do I access that e-mail file?
Hiding the file inside the old oak tree sounds good to me?
(And stop making fun of Jennifer. She is a nice girl.)
