I forget how to disable cookies and I'm getting popups like never before. I'm not sure what happened, but I've never got them before, now they are driving me nuts.

Can someone tell me a good pop up blocker and how to disable cookies? Confused

I have a Dell. Windows ME and my virus protection is AVG.

Nadca gave you a great answer, pup! That was a download to a pop-up stopper... exactly what you need!

If you WANT, you can go to: tools/internet options/general - then delete cookies.

OR: same route, but instead of "general" chose "Advanced" and go down to "security" and check the "empty temp files folder when browser is closed".

But, I think that the first suggestion is right for you!

About cookies...
Cookies are simple text files. They don't cause pop ups.

You can remove them, but I think you'll find it very inconvenient. Every time you revisit a site, the site won't remember your preferences set on previous visits.

Yah, I've been doing exactly that, Tree.

I'm still getting lots of popups though and my computer is so slow. It took me almost ten minutes to access AP.

What could be going on? My virus protector says there is no virus, and I've checked the box to empty the temp folder everytime, but nothing is working.

Any other suggestions?

You can find adecent pop-up killer free... I would perhaps, if you don't like cookies, find a browser that allows you to only allow cookies for 'trusted' sites. That would allow you to set all of the websites that you use frequently enough to need them.

Pup, I downloaded AlarmZone, a free version, and the popups have gone way, way down. Also, as far as your computer running slow, you can try a couple of things.
First, check your msconfig to see what is running in the background. To do that go to RUN; type in msconfig, then go to the STARTUP TAB, and keep only the programs checked that you want to run from startup, all others can be started manually as needed.
Also, if you have a system restore, remove all previous start up points by disabling the system restore. Then, once that is done, re-enable it, then you can create a new restore point. That will help speed things up.
Also, run a defrag, and a scan ( error checking) I'm not sure what those are called on your system. Also, under system tools, run a disk cleanup.
Doing all these things might help clean up your computer allowing it to run a little faster. Smile
