I've been looking for an easy fix for the remnants of a virus, namely morze5.exe and a bunch of other entries in startup that shouldn't be there. Alot of the suggestions deal partly with doing stuff in the registry. They all say to be careful because you can cause a lot of trouble doing the wrong thing. This is especially true for a beginner(like me). I would like to clean up my pc, but am a little apprehensive when they mention REGISTRY. Should I be so concerned about this so as not to run a program dealing it?

have had morze 5 - 6 times since Mar 26,. It is spywar, from what I could find, but not detected by SpyBpt or Adaware. My virus program doesn't recognize it either.

I got rid of it pretty quickly without going to the registry.

However since it is sent to you by advertisers you may get it again.

Go to "Start" button on desktop
go tofind files or folder
type in "startup"

Delete morze 5 and the alphanumeric files that you've seen and cleared when you start up. I had to do this in four folders in the start menu. These files will have the same names that run when you boot up and the pc searches for morze5 and then searches for 2- 5 more files. Really delay the startup and slow down everything. At times when "infected"sconfig took 2minutes to run!

Delete these in "startup" and "disabled startup". Then delete them from the trash can or they some how appear again!
Finally go to msconig "startup" nad make sure none of the morze 5 programs are checked.

Restart.

Check your work in the msconfig startup menu. If the alphanumeric spyware files are no longer checked, or better yet gone, you're clean til the next infection.

As far as the registry, you could go in and reset the date to a day before the morze5 attack. I did this once on expert advice, but not with morze5.

It is a last resort. Hope this is clear enough.

If anyone has any better cures for morze 5 please post.

Hi Ujay
You are right to say it's dangerous to go poking Haphazardly inside the Registry Mad
(also time consuming Frown)
I have been posting several threads recently on EasyCleaner(which does clear out the Registry of orphan entries ) and its safe to use. takes on average about a minute to complete
Read through these postings to find out what I am talking about (and I have included some tips on how to get around the program ) Download address is mentioned several times Smile
Then once you have done this I recommend you install a spyware stopper like Spywareblaster to halt things like this taking root again Smile

Bedstor! I ran the Easy Cleaner, and 212 invalid items came up, and they were all green, no yellow or red. I deleted all, and then closed. When the next page came up, I hit restore, and a bunch of yellow (No red items) and some green came up. Does this sound right? I know i didn't do something right (THICK). What do you think?? I restored everything back to original cause I didn't know if this was right or not. Confused Thank God for restore!!

Hi Ujay
I have an idea that will work and those "yellow"
items can stay (I think they are flagged because they are used by another program)
Needs a bit of patience even if you delete a yellow accidently It does not mean you have broken anything Smile quite often if it's a shared item it might regenerate?
Ready to give it a go?
Run the program again so the page is full of greens (and the yellows) scroll down the list
and add up the total of yellows you see
OK now take that away from the total number of Files shown (I expect there will be about a dozen Roll Eyes)
Now Ujay for the clever bit Razz
Scroll up to where the first yellow item on the list press the "Select All" button
The entire list has turned a beige color yes?
now this is the trick..
locate the Control key(marked Ctrl)in the bottom corner of your keyboard (under the "Shift" keys)
Now click on the yellow colored item on the list, while holding down the Ctrl key the list will turn blue but the selected item has turned white
Now try to get the list to scroll(with the cursor keys) and click on all the Yellows (Turning them white while Keeping your finger on the Ctrl key)
Shouldn't take you long? Smile
Now press the Delete button and
All the highlighted items are whisked away to the Recycle bin leaving you with just the yellow flagged items which should tally roughly with the number you estimated earlier Smile
Now you can close up and empty the Bin Smile
Hows that? Wink

Hi Bedstor, I ran the easyclean program again, and when finished, all green items came up, and I proceded to delete all. Then I went to next page, and deleted history, and cookies, and found an item or two in unnecessary files that I also deleted. The pc runs much faster. I was afraid of deleting something important, but with the undo, items can be restored. Thanks so much for your help. Any other good tips will be appreciated. UJAY

P.S. I found a morze5 item in unnecessary files, which I promptly deleted. No more morze5 comes up at startup. Smile

The program I ran was the 2.0.6 version.

Bedstor - The item Morze5 that I found in unnecessary files was flagged RED, but it was a thorn in my side for some time already, and since it was in unnecessary files, I figured it could go Bye Bye. Razz Everything seems to be running ok. UJAY
