First of all sorry for such a long post.

I have a HP with windows 98 and I recently ran that free virus scan Housecall from Trendmicro. It listed several files that were spyware/virus/etc. I chose the option to delete these programs and now I have problems when I start my computer.

When my computer first start up a prompt titled ibm00027 pops up saying it performed an illegal operation and must shut down.

I typed in msconfig in Run and went to the startup page.

There is a box checked shell and next to it it says C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\ibm00027.exe, I tried unchecking the box and restarting my computer, but that had no effect.

I then decieded to check the system folder myself. I went to C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM and under folder options I checked show all files.(I'm not deleting files on my own so don't worry.)

Five new files were created/modified within 24 hours.

Ripleg - I click it and a dos prompt came up mentioning riptide audio, I was recetly listening to music on a website so I don't think I have to be worried about that one.

The other four files were
ibm00007.dll - modified 5/15/06 7:02 PM
ibm00028.dll - modified 5/15/06 7:05 PM
ibm00027.exe - modified 5/15/06 7:05 PM
ibm00027.dll - modified 5/15/06 7:05 PM

Does anyone have any idea what My problem is?

First, thank you for providing so much detail about your system. That helps so much when we're attempting to assist you!

I recommend...using a group of spyware removal tools:

Three that I highly recommend are:
Ad-Aware, Spybots and SpywareBlaster. You can download all three from my site: http://dwightblackburn.com#spyware

Just click on any of the filenames, then right-click on the file and choose "Save target as".

If you need a tutorial on running any of these, you can use the OK, Teach Me site shown on my page. Also, if necessary you can set up a remote connection with me and I can install/repair the system for you. The directions for this are available on my site.

If these do not remove the files (and they very well may not, since the "ibm00027" file is not listed on their sites), then I suggest that you may find the "HijackThis" utility program helpful (this program is also available on my site).

This program is quite advanced, so I suggest that you post the scan log here and we can look at it and make recommendations about what items should be checked to be fixed.
