BAVARIAN APPLE PIE
(Texas State Fair Winner)
CRUST:
1/2 cups butter or margarine, softened 1/4 tsp. vanilla
1 cup flour 1/3 cup sugar
CREAM CHEESE FILLING:
1 (8-oz.) pkg. cream cheese
1/4 cup sugar
1 egg
1/2 tsp. vanilla

APPLE TOPPING:
4 cup apples, cored, peeled, and sliced
1/3 cup sugar
3 Tbsp. pecans, chopped
1/2 tsp. cinnamon

In a large bowl, cream butter and sugar; stir in vanilla. Add flour and mix well. Press in bottom and sides of greased 9-inch spring form pan.

For filling: In a medium bowl, combine the cream cheese and the sugar. Add eggs and vanilla; mix well. Spread the filling over the top of the crust. Place the apples on the filling. In a small bowl, combine the cinnamon and sugar; sprinkle on the apples. Sprinkle pecans on top. Bake in a preheated 450°F. oven for 10 minutes. Reduce heat to 400°R and bake for 25 minutes. Let cool before removing from pan. Yields 8 servings. .

(Sandy’s notes - I only covered about 2/3 up the sides of the pan or else the crust was much higher than the cheese and apples. Press in the crust using your fingers. Also, do not use whipped cream cheese. I used Granny Smiths and the baking time was a little longer. After 20-25 minutes, I would cover the pan with tin foil to keep the apples from drying out.)
