We've had the same tradition for New Years Eve for the last 15 years or so (before kids and with the kids), but it is funner for us than the kids, so need a new tradition. We are a middle aged married couple with fairly young kids (6 & 10- both boys). It is hard to agree on the same things at this stage, so need lots of ideas. We might not even stay up until midnight, and we don't want to cook. So we'll go out to eat and then need a fun activity that can create nice memories, and be carried on through the next few years. Oh, the tradition we are giving up is the nice, relaxed sushi dinner in the private room at the japanese restaurant, sunken table, pillows on wood floor, wonderful food, etc. - very nice.

That sounds like fun.. well, the dining out part.. and the ambience of the Sushi meal, not to sure about the Sushi part though. Smile LOL

Why not make it a tradition to have each person decide WHERE to go for a meal for New Years Eve? I mean, try different foods and different cuisine each year celebration? Each person make a ballet choice and then put into a hat and draw if you want to be very impartial.

Get take out and spend the evening at home playing board games, watching movies and making a "Yearbook"... a journal of everyone's favorite memories of the year past and of what everyone hopes for in the year to come, everyone contributes at least one happy memory and one wish for '07.. if you have sports fans in the house, include predictions for the next round of championships or who will retire in '07.. or make a list of favorite movies from this last year... have each family member choose a photo or other keepsake (a school award, concert ticket stub) to paste into the book... then next year you can pull it out and add to it.

Our family always celebrated the New Year by a crab feast by candlelight. Fresh crab always seemed to get the new year off to a great start.
