Which passenger on the Titanic was the inspiration for Rose's character in the James Cameron film? *************** 04-14-04, 10:03 AM Sailracer Ida Strauss
04-14-04, 10:27 AM Jenny Roberts I have a different answer for this
04-14-04, 02:38 PM Georgia85 Some say that Eleanor (Johnson) Shuman was the inspiration for Rose but that has been questioned as she was only 18 mos old at the time of the accident and she was in 3rd class.
She reportedly met James Cameron at the world premier of the Titanic where he was quoted as saying "He said I reminded him of Rose, the girl in the movie"
Here is her obituary

04-14-04, 10:45 PM Sailracer Sorry, I mis-read my source; However, I cannot verify, but Cameron supposedly named "Rose" after his grandmother!
04-15-04, 12:50 PM Jenny Roberts He may well have 'named' her after his grandmother but Rose's 'character' was supposedly modelled on actual passenger Eleanor Shuman. Eleanor was a frequent guest on Titanic related programmes and visited various exhibitions. Cameron never met her before his own Titanic premiere but he must have known of her.I have read this information in various books and websites.
