I'm not sure if Tree wasn't among the first 50th who founded Montreal but let's just say that the count was less than 48 .So it was between 1 and 48 on 01-01-1642. BTW the "party" was going on in Quebec city ,in those years, which was founded in 1608. (that's where they learn that giving booze to Indians was not a good idea)
As a side note, as mentioned by SR ,Montreal was called Ville-Marie in the old days, and before that, it was called "Hochelaga" by the Hurons inhabitants, which means: "where the rivers meet"
