Confused

Women weren't allowed to enter the ancient Olympics. They weren't allowed as spectators either.(As if they'd want to watch a lot of naked men wrestling and such like Roll Eyes). So there was no victrix (and there were no spectatrices Big Grin ). A woman could employ athletes or own horses used in the Games but not compete in person.

They had their own Games, the Heraea.

These were held in the Olympic stadium too

In the ancient Olympics, married women were not allowed to participate in any way. However unmarried women could watch the Olympic Games. The ancient Olympic Games though did not allow female participants; an exception was made at the Herean Games, staged every four years to honor Hera, wife of Zeus, allowing female athletes to participate in the games.
PS: my source mentions "Olympic victor"

Kyniska, daughter of King Archidamos of Sparta. Her chariot won and the wreath went to the owners in equestrian events, rather than the rider(s). (No truth to the rumor that Doriangreyed was the charioteer).

It must be in current English. Smile Not much hope of getting victrix and victrices back into use when women on the stage term themselves 'actors' not 'actresses'. Big Grin Or as the legal rule of interpretation of documents has it 'male embraces the female unless the context otherwise requires'.

In a recent case in our High Court concerning sado-masochism one counsel said 'dominatrixes' and his opponent 'dominatrices'. Mr Justice Eady was saying 'dominatrices', which settled the matter (as should be).

Kyniska is the answer I have Dogspit. Smile Thanx.

I must had, though, that I found a contender after some more research.

The winner of the first Olympic chariot and pair race is listed as "Belistiche, a woman from the seaboard of Macedonia." (Pausanias 5.8.11) Source

(I'll give DG some fun to have with Wink)

It would be the first time that I heard of a Judge who really knows what he is talking about when it comes time to talk about "Dominatrices" wouldn't it? Big Grin

Yes, well. Judges are assigned to cases according to their known expertise and experience. So a judge with an extensive knowledge of musicology and a known brilliant musician is assigned to a case of composers claiming copyright in a song, for example. This one is a specialist in privacy law...but people may start to talk, nonetheless Big Grin Anyway, like all our judges of his generation, he knows and remembers his Latin. That's the important thing !

The case was Max Mosley suing for invasion of privacy. He'd hired five prostitutes to whip him while talking, very strictly, in German. One of them had been wired-up by a tabloid and filmed the scene.Mr Mosley complained. He's the son of the English fascist leader Sir Oswald Mosley (who was jailed in WW2). For some reason the tabloid got the strange idea that this scene had Nazi overtones. The judge held that it didn't.
