In 1457, King James II of Scotland banned a sport. What sport was it and why did he do this?

Aye, Laddie, tis true tis true.

Golf was banned in Scotland in 1457 by King James II who felt it was distracting young men from archery practice. This ban was repeated by succeeding monarchs until James IV in 1502.
