He re-organized the great English fuedal systems, dissolved the great Earldoms and redistributed the land. The Ecclesiastical and secular courts were seperated and the power of the papacy of England was greatly cutrailed. He also undertook a economic survey that was to become know as the Doomsday Book of 1086. For most Enlish villages and towns Doomsday is the starting point of their history. For historians of Anglo-Normandy England the survey is of immeasurable importance.
