In 1828, something was discovered in Georgia for which much pursuit was gained. This eventually required the removal of all indigenous people in the area. What was the discovery?

There GOLD in them darn hills Big Grin There is evidence that it was mined much as early as 1799 in NC but word of the nugget discovery never spread so GA got the credit for the nation's first gold rush. Frank Logan is credited for making the discovery in White County in 1828, while Benjamin Parks is credited for making his discovery in Lumpkin County.

Correct. Smile

I believe I read long ago that the Spanish had made some progress north (from Florida) and had begun to mine gold near or around the same time as the settlement of St. Augustine. I'm not sure how factual that is, or where I read it.
