This General was never defeated while on foreign soil for 16 years of his rampage. He was not in fact defeated until recalled to defend his homeland. Who was he?

I don't think Batu Khan was defeated. I do not know if he was in the field 16 years or not.
Alexander the Great (a fellow Macedonian) may qualify. I cannot think of a battle he lost, althought that does not mean he didn't lose one. But again, i don't think he was 'called back' (By whom?) nor was he gone 16 years.
