What US general/admiral waited the longest to be promoted to the rank of O-11 (5-stars)? ******************* 07-20-02, 01:41 PM esencia General of the Army Omar N. Bradley: September 20, 1950 ??
07-20-02, 01:45 PM mahal Yes, he got 5 stars (and he was the last person to get it), but one man waited a lot longer!
07-20-02, 01:49 PM esencia General of the Army Douglas MacArthur: December 18, 1944
07-20-02, 02:00 PM mahal Nope, someone else waited A LOT longer! The award was only offered to 11 men. (You're narrowing it down!)
07-20-02, 02:12 PM esencia Adm. William D. Leahy, Dec. 15, 1944
07-20-02, 03:27 PM DorianGreyed How long did George Washington wait ?
07-20-02, 03:33 PM mahal We have a weiner!!
Congress declared George Washington General of the Army and gave him his 5th star in 1978. He was 239 years old and 179 years dead.
07-20-02, 06:47 PM DorianGreyed But I'm sure he was grateful. If he had descendants (which he doesn't, despite someone here or at the other place thinks), and if they were like George, they'd lobby for increased retirement benefits. George never passed up a chance to make more money. Research his expense account as General.
