My keyboard is droppi g the letter" " right after the letter "M"...so bear with me...
Very possibly the city of "COLO " o the Atla tic side of the "P" Ca al....( this is really a pai i the butt....)
I do k ow for a fact it was bestowed for him..

The COLUMBUS MONUMENTS PAGES lists several that pre-date the Baltimore monument. The Baltimore monument seems to be the first one in the US. (Fritz's in Colon, Panama dates from 1867-70.)
