When were the words "under God" adopted by amendment in " The Pledge of Allegiance "? +++++++++++ 03-30-03, 06:29 PM methos 1954 - after a campaign by the Knights of Columbus and during the Cold War against the 'godless' communists - but it wasn't actually an amendment, was it?
03-30-03, 06:51 PM mozart56 June 1954 is right , and according to this site it was an amendment.
03-30-03, 09:14 PM DorianGreyed The Pledge was amended, but there was no Constitutional amendment. The site Mozart cited doesn't state that a Constutional Amendment was made. I think that there is some misunderstanding about the word 'amendment.'
03-30-03, 09:18 PM methos I may have misunderstood what you meant, but I thought you were referring to a constitutional amendment, which it was not. This site refers to "under God" amending the original pledge.
A bit slow on the reply... it looks like DorianGreyed beat me to it.
03-31-03, 07:55 AM mozart56 I realize that I have been confused myself, you're both right .There was an "amendmend" but not "constitutional amendmend". Confused
Thanks the clarification.
