What was the name of the ship that delivered the key components of the atomic bomb to the island of Tinian in WW II? What happened to the ship and the men after the delivery? (Hint - This was discussed, and exaggerated, in a later, very famous movie.)

The Indianapolis; The Indianapolis was sunk by a Japanese submarine on July 30, 1945.
Of the 1196 crew members on board, only 316 men survived a four-day ordeal afloat in the Philippine Sea, ravaged by sharks, dehydration, sunstroke, hypothermia, salt poisoning and a deadly oil slick from their own ship.

Exactly, SR! In the movie "Jaws," Quint, the shark hunter, told a story of being on the Indianapolis.
