The Spanish, Portuguese, English and French alternated using the mainland at the eastern edge of the bay as a port. The Galleons of Herman Cortes sailed in and out of the port, as did the vessels of buccaneer Jean Lafitte.

Sorry for the way I asked the question ,I am looking for one name, the word buccaneer should have been written without an "s". Roll Eyes

Cortez and Lafitte are not the name I am looking for. Smile

Hint: 1778

William Augustus Bowles -- better known as Billy Bowlegs. In 1778, he formed the State of Muskogee which controlled the Gulf shores and was envied by the Spanish, English and Americans.
