I usually have to wait days for Fred to tell me I'm wrong! Mind you we are way more efficient here in Canada than they are in the UK Big Grin

Being originaly from that region, one possible answer Bab, would be :Lachine (La Chine)
A city on the south side of Montréal Island, north of the Lachine Rapids. (45.44N/73.68W) Named by the early explorers who were searching for a way to China (La Chine in french). On several old maps, Lachine was shown as the area east of the Lachine Canal, now called Lasalle. The present Lachine was then called Upper Lachine

Wow, good one, Mozie! I thought it was a pretty hard one to guess! because of the la, mainly. What I don't know is whether they were being ironic or not.

There's a Lachine in Michigan, too, but I don't know if it, too, was named because they thought it was the eastern coast of China or if was really a New Lachine (named for the Quebec Lachine, that is). Could have been either, really, because it's near an old trading route.
