Who is the first US president to visit China and the USSR. Also what year was that? ++++++++++ 07-18-02, 09:19 AM mozart56 Richard Nixon in february (China) and May(USSR) 1972.
07-18-02, 11:11 AM DorianGreyed Nixon was the first sitting US President to visit China, but Hoover was in China prior to taking office. FDR also beat Nixon to the USSR, going to a meeting in Yalta in early 1945.
07-19-02, 12:15 AM samantha You are so correct!
07-20-02, 11:08 PM mozart56 The question implied "one president" with no "s" therefore a same an unique person, who visited both countries.!
07-20-02, 11:49 PM DorianGreyed One assumes you are correct, and yet the questioner seemed happy with the response. Yes, It was a question that seemd to have to possible, distinct answers; one person fitting both conditions, and two people, each meeting one of the conditions. I chose the 2 person answer because I thought that was the response wanted, the intent of the questioner. Quite frankly, in a trivia contest, I would have asked for a clarification. In contests, it is very important that the questions ask only what you intend to ask and elicit one and only one answer. By the way, one contest I was in asked about "the first President to visit the USSR." The only answer accepted was Nixon. Repeated attempts to get them to check was met with: 1) Where's Yalta ? 2) Where's the Ukraine ? 3) The Ukraine is not part of the USSR. 4) The Ukraine is not part of Russia. and finally 5) We meant 'Official Visit.'
