Have you ever voted for someone, then later voted againt the same person? I voted for Alan J. Dixon several times (state offices and US Senator) before voting against him. The basis of my vote against him (in the Democratic primary for Senate) was the absurd letter I received from him (OK, from his staff) explaining his vote for Clarence Thomas as Supreme Court Justice. (The letter patiently explained to me about the presumption of innocence, something that is not part of a judicial nomination. In other words, the person who wrote me didn't know what he was talking about.)

I voted for Bush Sr the first time, but when he ran for re-election, I felt that I could no longer support him. I did not want Clinton as President, so I did not vote in that election.
Being honest here, DG.

I wouldn't think otherwise. When I got that absurd letter from Dixon's staff, I wrote back, explaining how they were wrong, and telling them that they cost him quite a few votes. In the next primary, I worked very hard for his opponent, getting a number of people who wouldn't have otherwise voted to vote for his opponent; I also got some of his supporters to switch. He lost the primary by 3%. Unfortnately, his opponent was Carol Moseley Braun, who won the Senate seat, but was plagued by poor judgement in her choice of campaign manager, and in her personal relationship with him. She was defeated in her next election.

I voted for GWB the first time (he didn't carry Washington anyway, so it's not my fault he got in!) and didn't vote for him two years ago. I didn't vote for John Kerry, either, so that balanced the whole thing out nicely. I also didn't vote for ex-governor Gary Locke the first time around but did vote to re-elect him. He did a good job for our state so I wasn't displeased the second time around.

I voted for a union steward once, and didn't the second time because I realized that I could do a much better job. I ran against her, and won. Does that count? Big Grin
