Heck, even McDonald's is getting into the swing of things. A New York Times article (among other good tips) advises returning suspect tomatoes to the grocery store, or throwing them away. What happens to salmonella upon composting, though? Would the heat of an active compost pile kill it, or would it spread throughout the pile and by extension the garden upon which the compost is spread?
