phew, that is no walk in the park...
i hope you're coping well. this must not be something easy to deal with.
i find that to ease my sleep (and my dog's, hee!), i listen to classical music. have a nice glass of water at the side of your bed during the night. have a (big) flashlight in reaching distance. nightlights are for adults, too.
try to think of a place that you would always like to be, no matter what, be it you have a throbbing headache, a upset stomach, depressed about social drama, etc. think of that place (for example, i would think of a bright forest, maybe even with some rain, cause i find rain relaxing). then, look through magazines or online search engines to try to find this picture. get the picture, make it look nice by pasting it on a piece of paper, and put it by your bed.
also, try to think of relaxing sounds, tastes, smells, anything to fill your senses and make you think of other things.
this was dan's humble, unprofessional opinion. thanks for reading. ^_^

They say that you grow out of these things, but I guess I never grew up, lol. But the scariest part is how fast your heart beat accelerates. Also, you can imagine how I felt when waking up in flight down 15 steps, only to really hurt myself when landing at the bottom of the stairs. I survived it, but I do not want it to happen again. I will try the suggestions, though. It's kind of weird, it does happen like a half an hour to an hour after I go to sleep. I have been having this for over 30 years, and the meds are just a bandaid on it. I guess it's the subconscious mind reacting or something, but with the heavy medicine I'm taking (Trazadone), I can't even recall my dreams. I sleep like a rock. Guess that's better than having awful dreams.
