It sounds as if while the patient was being evaluated there were obvious signs of organic brain damage. A speech problem is one of many obvious signs. Speech problems are common symptoms of an organic brain disorder. Keep in mind that this is only one sign of an organic disorder. Only a trained professional would be able to determine if brain damage was organic. As with any other disorder, symptoms often mimic each other. (the article below explains)
Margerite: If I remember correctly, your husband had a stroke and after that he began to have personality changes. In this case the personality changes were not dued to an external stimuli or an environmental situation, but probably to brain damage caused by the lack of blood irrigation during the stroke. The cause of the personality change is organic. That is why you use this term.
