What do you do if you had a bad experience and you can't forget about it? Everytime a certain thing happens I start shaking and I feel like I'm reliving the whole thing again. I feel so frightened and like I never want to get out from under the blanket again. Is there anyway to stop feeling that way. I always tell my self afterwords it is not now it was then, but then i keep feeling like I am reliving it again.

The only thing you can do is get therapy and try to get desensitized to the experience. Sometimes the EXPECTATION that you will react actually CAUSES you to react that way.

I had a bad experience almost two years ago, that still haunts me. Sometime when I'm alone, I still cry over it because I keep reliving it. I've considered counseling, but I don't want my family to know that it's still bothering me. After reading your post, I seem to feel a little better, just knowing that I'm not alone with this kind of problem. I wish we could help each other. Just writing this post, make me teary.

You may be experiencing post-traumatic stress syndrome. Look this up on the Internet.

I would definitely seek professional help. If a past experience is interfering with your life like this, the only way to work through it may be with the help of an experienced therapist.

A little more information is needed with this question. What was it that happened. What is it that you are truly afraid of? I can assure you it goes a little deeper that the story of what happened. The statement of reliving the event worries me. It obviously isn't pleasant for you.

The questions I asked aren't intended for you to post on. Just ask yourself. Like others, I strongly suggest counciling. Save yourself the agony you are going to put yourself through until you can't stand it anymore.

I'm with tsaeb. I had an interesting experience in Virginia in 1992 (lived for a while with someone in the Witness Protection Program) and I developed PTSS after I got away. I had nightmares about it for a year, every night.

My husband - a utility lineman - rode an 80 ft. pole to the ground in 1975 - he was on top - and when he died in 2002 was still suffering from PTSS. (That's P-TS-S). However, you can get it from a non-injury automobile accident, a fall down the steps or any unpleasant or frightening experience. It may last 3 days or 3 years. It's a lot more common than people think.

Go see your doctor.
