The only thing you can do is get therapy and try to get desensitized to the experience. Sometimes the EXPECTATION that you will react actually CAUSES you to react that way.

I'm with tsaeb. I had an interesting experience in Virginia in 1992 (lived for a while with someone in the Witness Protection Program) and I developed PTSS after I got away. I had nightmares about it for a year, every night. My husband - a utility lineman - rode an 80 ft. pole to the ground in 1975 - he was on top - and when he died in 2002 was still suffering from PTSS. (That's P- TS-S). However, you can get it from a non-injury automobile accident, a fall down the steps or any unpleasant or frightening experience. It may last 3 days or 3 years. It's a lot more common than people think. Go see your doctor. Catty
