Kitty - Do consider changing therapists! But don't necessarily give up on therapy altogether.
Kitty - and Sammy - Some therapists focus on changing your attitudes and behavior, hence your outlook, rather than dredging up the past and working through that. Ask around and see if you can find a therapist who works through those methods if you don't feel comfortable digging backwards right now.
And yes - there are good and bad therapists - I've had both! Don't let one spoil the idea of treatment if you think it will help.
PS - If you need meds, can your regular doctor prescribe them?
Good luck! --Mitzi

From my experience, Texan is absolutely right. Here is the problem. You may have to go through quite a few before you find a good one. Myself, I just gave up on the entire thing. If you feel you need help by therapy, don't give up as I did, keep looking. Good ones are often very difficult to find. Use your instinct on this one. You will know what is right for you.
It Hurts me, I fight Major Depression and PTSD, not an unfamiliar combination. But I find the therapy is diametrically opposed. One looks inside to see how you feel and see things. The other tries to drag the anger, blood and gut from you. A therapist who is good should know when to stop one and start another and more importantly when to stop and let you back down slowly and painlessly as possible. My illnesses are inter-related yet one fights the other. Things I done in the past have to remain there (I think wrongly) but other things peceptions and ideas need to be brought out. Rock......
