Several decades ago I posted a query on Jeeves asking where I could get hold of a copy of a long out-of-print children's book called "Black Banner Abroad". This was before e-bay surfaced and I'd been seeking it for years. I remember someone responding (Viv, perhaps, I do believe it was, saying she would do some research - but all those Shakespeare sonnets and Jane Austen re-reading sesssions obviously got in her way Anyway, I've since tracked down the entire "Bannerdale" series, mainly through e-bay at some cost, but who's complaining? Now, though, a publisher has recently emerged in the UK known as "Girls Gone By", with the mission of re-issuing "Black Banner Abroad" and others in the Bannerdale series, and, at a ess parocial level a lot more hard-to-find children's books from years ago that are actively sort after? So if you're trying to get hold of a hard-to-find UK title by Geoffrey Trease or Malcom Saville or Elinor Brent-Dyyer or whoever, try here. I have no personal involvement in the company but do feel I owe them a personal debt of gratitude.
I'm glad to see this post. While I am completely unfamiliar with the series, I think it important that companies that re-print "special" books deserve both recognition and help in promoting their efforts.
