My family and I are throwing a surprise 75th birthday for my grandmother. We've hired a DJ to play various songs from the 1930s on up through the 2000s. We're looking for an ending song that would spark memories for her. It needs to be country style. I've looked through my song list and nothing really stands out.

I was considering Alan Jackson's "Remember When" but it's so sad and almost makes me cry!

Does anyone have any (more cheerful) suggestions? Thanks!

You might want something from the 1930's Grand Ole Opry, maybe something by Roy Acuff, and the Smoky Mountain Boys. Acuff was a huge star then. Maybe something like The Great Speckle Bird, if she likes gospel, or Wabash Cannonball, a real barn-burner for dancing, and the total opposite of sad!

I looked on LimeWire but they don't have any 'approved' (lock-symbol) versions you can download. But they have plenty to download, if you want to take a chance.

You can get recordings from Amazon.com.

I can't think of a specific song title, but here are some artists that sprang to mind right away....
Hank Williams, Sr., early Johnny Cash, Patsy Cline, Brenda Lee, Jimmy Dean, Flatt & Scruggs, Jim Reeves, Jeannie C Riley, Porter Wagoner, Loretta Lynn, Dolly Parton &The Carter Family are all bound to stir up memories-
other choices might include favorites that are still making hit records, like George Strait, Reba MacEntire, Garth Brooks, Exile, Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Tim McGraw, Martina McBride, the Judds/Wynona and Rodney Crowell.
Happy Hunting!
