"HE STOPPED LOVING HER TODAY" -- George Jones's hit had been previously recorded by Johnny Russell on January 18, 1979. Russell's track was scheduled to be on his album "PERSPECTIVES", listed as Mercury 5019. I have read that it appears to never have been released. Can you provide any recent information about the availability of Johnny Russell's rendition?

I've found some mention of Johnny Russell doing the song first and received little attention, but can't find anything about an actual album. Even searches on sites that specialize in rare albums.

An interview with Bobby Braddock here says "Johnny Russell recorded it twice for two different labels; I don’t know if it ever came out on him or not."

Where did you hear that it was supposed to be on an album called Perspectives? As far as I can find, wherever you heard that it wasn't released seems to be right.
