When i was a kid, my nana made these things she called "scotch oat bars", and my grandfather called them "quaker oat bars"....
They were made with oats, and had like a chocolate top, but i dont remember much else except they tasted excellent.... anyone know of anything similar?
Thanks +++++++++++++++++++++++++ 01-12-04, 08:13 AM Georgia85 Does this look similiar?
Scotch Oat Bars
Ingredients:- 1/2 cup butter, melted 1/4 cup corn syrup 1/2 cup brown sugar 1 teaspoon vanilla 2 cups rolled oats 1/4 teaspoon salt 1 teaspoon baking powder 1/2 cup flaked coconut Topping ingredients:- 1 pkg. semi-sweet chocolate chips 1/4 cup chopped walnuts
Method:- Preheat oven to 350F. Combine butter, syrup, sugar and vanilla. Add remaining ingredients and mix thoroughly. Press mixture into a greased 9" square pan and bake until golden brown; 20 to 25 minutes. When cool spread with melted chocolate and sprinkle with nuts. Cut in bars, about 2 dozen. Note:-If crisp bar is desired, omit coconut.-
01-12-04, 02:52 PM Cyndiluwho_99 This sounds to me like the "Oatmeal Scotchies" we used to make when I was a kid.
The recipe can be found on the back of the Nestle's Butterscotch Morsels bag. (Sorry I don't have it in front of me right now).
Use the directions for Bar Cookies rather than for Drop Cookies.
